WHAT IS REIGATE LOCAL?

Local businesses, organisations and people bring a community to life. As more and more big supermarkets and national chain stores occupy space in our high streets, we need to help our smaller local businesses, shops and charities to stand out from the crowd.

These huge corporations have enormous advertising budgets which the local enterprises don’t necessarily have access to. It’s extremely difficult to make lots of noise about what you do when you only have a limited amount of funds available to promote your business.

This is a new initiative I have started. As a Social Media Manager I am very aware of the benefits of using social media for business promotion and I want to help my local community in Reigate to generate a buzz about their business, event or fundraiser. My vision is to create an online community where residents and visitors can find information on the great local businesses that are based in their area and to be the first to hear about exciting paid or charity events which they may not otherwise have heard about.

WHY WORD OF MOUTH?

Social media is the 21st Century word of mouth. Most people now have a personal Facebook profile and more and more people are joining Twitter each day. If you visit a business and receive good (or bad) service, you are likely to tell your friends and contacts about your experience. Whether it is a status update or a tweet, the message can be shared with a large number of people very quickly.

If you run a business in Reigate; post a brief description of what you can offer with a link to either the Facebook Fan Page for your business or your business website. If you have a special offer or promotion, post the details. It would be great if you wanted to share a special promotion that only fans of this Page could benefit from. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t got any promotional offers – just tell us who you are and what you do.

If you are a Reigate based charity; please post brief details of your charity on the Page wall telling us where you are and who can benefit from your help. More importantly, do post details of an upcoming event.

If you live or work in Reigate; please watch the status updates from this Page as they will list info from each business and charity for your information. If you see something you like, contact the business or charity direct or pop in and see them.

If you have a question about a specific post; enter a comment against the post and the originator will respond to you. It’s a great way for businesses and customers to communicate and build relationships. If you see a post that has helped you, either click on the ‘like’ button next to the post or leave a comment.
